(*famous last words)

James, Mike and I had the first of our newly instituted weekly meetings last night, and we managed to hammer out a schedule for the remainder of our first “semester” — that is, through July 10th.  So far, we’ve been going more or less week-to-week, which is exciting but insane; now, thankfully, we have a little bit of lead time, which hopefully will make staffing a little easier.  Now instead of asking, “Whare are you doing this weekend?” I can ask “What are you doing June 17th?”  So much more civilized!

As you know if you’ve been following the blog, “A Summer’s Day” will be posted this Friday, and “Sublet” is shooting this weekend (to be posted June 19th).  Following that, we have:

Film #4: After Perfect

As some of you may recall, “After Perfect” was originally slated for Week Two, then dropped temporarily in favor of “A Summer’s Day” (an outdoor shoot, in the interest of variety) and “Sublet” (a time-sensitive location).  Well, as of now, “After Perfect” is officially back on the docket!  Genevieve Kolve, of “A Summer’s Day,” is still attached to star, with a male star to be announced shortly.  It’s a hyper-verbal romantic trifle written by yours truly, and I’m looking forward to seeing it take shape.  “After Perfect” will be posted on June 26th.

Film #5: Whiteboard

For those of you who loved “Old Love,” this will be our second Mike Lavoie script — a gently surreal piece about love and art and the fuzzy boundaries between them.  The script is currently undergoing revisions, and the cast and director are still up in the air, but it’s markedly different from anything else we’ve got on the schedule, and that alone makes it exciting.  “Whiteboard” will be posted on July 3rd.

Film #6: Still Life

This will be our first no-dialogue film; it’s another script of mine, and I’ll be directing it as well.  It’s meant to be an intensely visual urban fairy tale.  You’ll have to let us know if we pull it off!

Casting on “Still Life” will be a little tricky, so there’s a chance we’ll have to bump it to later in the summer, in which case we’ll be replacing it with “Spirits” — another dialogue-free New York story, albeit a slightly darker one.  Either way, you’ll get your silent film!  We don’t mess around here at 12in12 headquarters.  “Still Life” (or its replacement) will be posted July 10th.

That’s the update!  Thank you, everyone, for all your support and criticism thus far.  We hope you’ll keep tuning in throughout the summer.  We promise you we’re just getting started …

  1. [...] Since a lot of it is still up in the air, and since we don’t want to keep backtracking on our announcements, I can only officially present to you the first two films on the docket.  But rest assured, [...]
