No, really! Cinemascope! While I don’t completely understand the finer points of the anamorphic aspect ratio or what 2.35:1 really means, what I do know is: we did it. And it looks pretty cool. And isn’t that why we got into movies in the first place? To look cool?

I started writing the “The Proposal” with the goal of making an ensemble movie that we could film on our roof. What I ended up with was much different  than anything I had intended on creating, and we had a great time getting it onto the screen. I’m really proud of this one. Please enjoy and let us know what you think!!!

On top of the well documented filming craziness, in order to fill all the roles, we had to dig deep into our Mac Address Books to find the right actors. The problem with a film like this one is that no role was unimportant, and we didn’t want them played by Joe or Jane wannabe moviestar. We didn’t want extras — we needed ACTORS. And over the years, I have been fortunate enough to work with many very fine actors who were selfless enough to take roles in “The Proposal.” In a way, this film is like looking at a sedimentary rock of my time in NYC.

MUD:

  • Thomas Sullivan, who scored “The Proposal,” I met on my first day at the Esper Studio — January 2004
  • Reni Sevasti, I met later that year in a voice class at the Esper studio — June 2004
  • Alexis MacDonald & Christian Rozakis, Esper Studio. Alexis later invited me to be part of a theater company she was starting — March 2005
  • Joshua Conkel, who I acted with in Aloha Say the Pretty Girls in Jersey City — July 2005

CLAY:

  • Keith Boynton, who cast me in his one-act play, Walls — Nov 2006

SILT:

  • James Fauvell, who I collaborated with at the LAByrinth Theater Master class – Feb 2008
  • Abby Holland, musical improv goddess as well as JF’s main squeeze, who I met at a LAB mixer. She would not make out with me then. She will not now. — March 2008

SAND:

  • Jamal Sedayao and Julie Garrison, hilarious improvisers from my UCB 201 class — April 2009
  • Patti Goettlicher, Adam Toback and Shawn Dempewolff, all of whom came out for the 12in12 auditions — May 9, 2009

GRAVEL:

  • Sumi Lee came on board just in time for “Old Love” — June 2009
  • Jenessa Kornaker, actor and musician — we met through our Associate Producer Clint Byrne – June 2009
  • Madelyne Camera, dancer and photographer extraordinaire — I met her for the first time on the set of “Captivated” — June 2009
  • And finally, Brigitte Choura, who I only knew for 14 days before casting her in The Proposal — we were in a reading together at the New York Theater Workshop. July 1, 2009

So there you have it. These are the giants on whose shoulders we now stand. Thank you, giants. Thank you for not eating us and for helping us make movies. We will not tell the angry townsfolk where you live. See you next time, wherever, whenever that may be.
