Watch Film #10: “Magic Marker” – Yet Another Almost Silent Movie!

Man, we are hating on dialogue these days.
Also available on the YouTube.
For my sophomore directing effort, I definitely went in better prepared. I scouted the location beforehand, I made this crazy thing called a “shot list,” I even met with the DP before the morning of the shoot. (When I showed up to Prospect Park for “A Summer’s Day” I thought the DP’s name was Antonio and he was from Italy – he was in fact Adam from Long Island).
The night before Sunday’s shoot at CenterstageNY we renamed the film “Magic Marker” (previously “Whiteboard”), on a suggestion by Keith. The reason for this change will become self-evident very quickly and it’s remarkable that the script had been around for months without someone suggesting the alternate title. In fact, it’s pretty unlikely that the film could exist at all without the term “Magic Marker” being bandied about.
Freud would suggest there is a big scary subconscious reason behind this, but that reason may just be that I am a nincompoop.
But my nincompoopery led to a movie – so take THAT Sigmund! Where are YOUR movies? Nowhere? Why’s that? Because you’re dead? Huh. That’s a real shame.
Let us know what you think of “Magic Marker”!
