It is with great sadness that we report that Richard Isaacs, who appeared in our films “Sublet” and “Magic Marker,” passed away on April 30th, 2010, after a two-year battle with leukemia.

Mike and I saw Richard only three times: at the 12in12 audition, and on the two shoots he participated in.  Each time he was courteous, sprightly, and a consummate professional.  I remember falling behind schedule on the “Sublet” shoot, and feeling more and more guilty about wasting Richard’s time.  Finally, I took a moment to step aside and apologize to him.  “Are you kidding?” he said.  “This is how it is!”  And I instantly felt better.  There was such a calm assurance about him that it was hard not to be relaxed in his presence.

Here are Mike’s memories of Richard:

The parts Richard had were small, but I don’t think he looked at them that way. A lesser actor would have just have gone through the motions and been on his way, but Richard wanted to get it just right.

At the end of the shoot, he smiled, shook my hand, thanked me and exited stage left. It was a pleasure working with him. He was a true professional.

Richard’s tango-dancing friends are planning to hold a celebration of his life at the end of the summer.  If we can get our hands on the details, we’ll post them in this space.

Rest easy, Richard.  You will be missed.

Rest in peace.

  1. I worked with Richard on PEEPER. He was both talented and gracious and wonderful to work with. He was showing signs of his illness then, always resting between takes, finding a place to put his head down and rest from standing up. We knew something was wrong but he didn’t reveal until after the shoot that he had Leukemia. When the film made it’s premeire in January he showed up to the screening, sat through the Q&A and didn’t miss a bit. Still fighting. Richard loved what he did. Big on screen but subtle behind the scenes, Richard lived his life to the fullest. Never one to seek attention, he just did what he did and let the rest fall into place.

  4. I was a friend of Richards, and knew him for over 12 years,I did not know he had passed away until I had a conversation with a mutual friend. Mary, today.
I stayed with Richard a few times on my visits to New York, we worked together on his Lubrinco paper, having submitted a few articles, and we exchanged a lot of security issues.
Richard visited us in London a few years back and stayed in our house for a few days and my German Shepherd dog,Tommy, who did not take to everyone, took to him. Sadly Tommy passed away with a heart problem shortly after.
    May you rest peacefully forever.
