Another Film Race has come and gone, and I’m just now feeling recovered enough to blog about it.  Perhaps even more so than “The Queen Bee of Mushroomtown,” this was a surreal and wonderful experience.  The hours flew by, the team clicked seamlessly; we became a lean, mean, pizza-fueled filmmaking machine.  And you know what?  I think we made a really good movie.  We call it “Thirsty Work,” and we can’t wait to let it loose upon the world.

Speaking of which, come to this Saturday’s 7:30 screening at NYU’s Cantor Film Center!  We’ll be there, and we’d love to see you.  Tickets and details are available here.

“Thirsty Work” will be posted in this space sometime next week.  Till then, here are some pictures to tide you over!  I hope they capture a little piece of the experience.  It was a magical time.

(It may be noted that our beloved Clint Byrne doesn’t appear in these photos.  That’s because Clint was too busy taking photos to pose for any.  Thanks, Clint!)

Yes, that's water from the Atlantic Ocean. No, Mike's not very happy about it.

Are you intrigued yet?

Done with shooting! One happy crew.

With a few hours left to turn in the movie, the remaining team enjoys a short break on the roof.

… and we got the film in with time to spare!  We’re getting pretty good at this.  Should that worry me?

“Proposal” Pre-Mortem

Shooting on “The Proposal” begins in just a few hours.  We’ll be filming mainly on the roof of 378 Bond, our living space and 12in12 headquarters.  Part of me feels a little sheepish using so many locations so close to home (after today, we’ll have shot four out of seven films in this neighborhood, not counting 12in12 precursor “Queen Bee”); on the other hand, when you have so many cool spots so readily available, what else are you going to do?

As expected, the cast has experienced a bit of a shake-up in the last two days.  Mario Hernandez is out; Jenessa Kornaker is in!  Jennifer Harder is out; Patti Goettlicher is in!  Which means we still have a full cast — assuming everyone shows up.  I am trying not to count any chickens, because all I see are eggs.

This shoot is going to be a bit unusual for me.  Instead of traditional “coverage” (shooting the same scene from multiple angles), we’ll be moving through the script more or less chronologically, often using just one shot to cover a whole section of dialogue.  This makes sense for all kinds of reasons, both artistic and logistical, and it’s exciting for me because I’ve never really worked this way before.  As Mike pointed out, this should make editing simpler — which is great, because we’re flying down to Florida on Wednesday.  Then again, should is a long way from will, so once again, there are no chickens …

That’s my mantra for today.  There are no chickens.
